Richard "Dick" Bousema, 66, of Rock Valley died Thursday, April 22, at the Sioux Falls Veterans Hospital. Services were at First Reformed Church in Rock Valley on Monday, with burial in Valley View cemetery.

Bousema was born May 29, 1926, at Hull, the son of Arie & Hattie (Holtrop) Bousema. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from October 21, 1944 to November 17, 1946. He married Wilma Hiemstra on September 26, 1949, at Artesia, CA. He owned and operated a dairy there in the Artesia and Chino, California area, before he began farming the in Boyden area in 1971. He retired and moved to Rock Valley in 1981.

Survivors include two sons, Ralph and his wife, Sheri Bousema of Rock Valley, and Steve Diaz of Garden Grove, CA; a daughter and her husband, Thelma & Randy Koops, of Downs, Kansas; his mother, of Sheldon; five brothers, Bill of Sanborn; John of Worthington, MN, Art of Artesia, Bernie and Hank of Sheldon; two sisters, Mrs. Nick (Greta) Bomgaars of Bellflower, CA, and Mrs. Jack (Gertrude) Littell of Kaysville, Utah; a sister-in-law, Carol Bousema of Sheldon; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.
