DIED:—Erastus Wheatley, of quick consumption, on Saturday, Feb. 13 aged 46 years. Some weeks ago Mr. Wheatley contracted a severe cold which turned to pneumonia and finally into quick consumption, causing him to fail rapidly. He leaves a wife and five children, besides many
other relatives to mourn his loss.
His remains were laid to rest at the Fairview cemetery on Monday. Our heartfelt sympathy goes to the bereaved ones left behind in this their
hour of grief.
(Erastus (Peter Erastus) Wheatley was born in Indiana to Allen Wheatley and Laura Abrams in 1851, he married Mellisa Ellen Bacus 1859-1934 in 1878. The lived in Belleville Nev.(?) in 1880 when he was 29 yrs and Melissa was 21 they had two children then Irnia G. 2, and Maybel 4 mo. In the 1900 census Melissa was reported to have had 6 children 5 living. ((It is presumed Maybel died as she does not appear later))
In the 1900 census Mellisa Wheatley born Apr 1859 in IA had two children living with her Henry Ray 15 and Gladys 12. A report on Ancestry.com listed the children as Clarence, Gertie, Imogene 1880, Ray 1885, and Gladys 1888.)
