Gertrude Elbers, age 80, of Rock Valley, died Wednesday, March 11, 1992 at the Sioux Valley Hosptial of Sioux Falls, SD. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the First Reformed Church of Rock Valley. Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Rev. Jelmer Groenewold officiated, Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley was in charge of arrangements.

Gertrude was born May 18, 1911 at Rock Valley. She was the daughter of Johannes and Elizabeth(Brower) Groeneweg. She married Henry Elbers on March 4, 1936 at Hull, Iowa. Together they farmed in the Rock Valley and Alvord area. Henry died January 9, 1977. Gertrude moved to Rock valley in 1983.

Surviving relatives include her son and his wife, Courtney and Myrna Elbers of Alvord, Iowa; one brother, Richard Groeneweg of Rock Valley; Three grandchildren and their spouses Carla and Brian Koedam, Michael and Tamera Elbers and Carl Elbers; 5 great grandchildren, Rayan, Matthew and Nathan Elbers, Joshua and Briana Koedam.
