Rites Held For Mrs. S. T. May
Funeral services for Mrs. S. T. May former Hawarden resident, were held March 5 in the Methodist church at Dickinson, N. D.
Mrs. May died March 2 from complications of old age. She hud been ill about two months.
Mrs. May was born in Chelsea, Iowa, June 10, 1867. She was the daughter of Fredrick and Lydia Roach. She attended schools in Iowa and college at Valparaiso, Ind.
She was married to Samuel T. May, Dec. 28, 1891, at Toledo, Iowa. Three children were born to them; they are Max R. May, Mullen, Neb., Don C. May, Window Rock Ariz., and Hal S. May, Bellingham, Minn. Other survivors include eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Mrs. May went to Dickinson in 1918 when her husband, the late S. T. May, was elected by the board of regents to be president of the Dickinson State Normal school.
Mr. May went there in July of 1918 and Mrs. May and her children went in September of the same year. Mr. May served as president of the college until his death in April of 1929.
Mr. and Mrs. May vent to Dickinson from Madison, S. D., where he had been superintendent of the city schools nine years.
After the death of her husband, Mrs. May divided her time between living in North Dakota and in California until 1941 when she returned to Dickinson and lived in the May residence until 1949. She then disposed of her property
and spent a year in Bismarck, returning
to Dickinson in 1950 when she took up her residence at the St. Benedict's home.
Mrs. May was a member of the Methodist church. She was a member of the Faculty Matrons
club and a former member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. May was preceded in death by her husband and one grandchild.
