Rites held for Mrs. Carr, 87.
Funeral Services Held Monday For Resident of Hawarden and Vicinity For Last 44 Years.
Mrs. Thomas H. Carr, 87, a resident of Hawarden and vicinity the past 44 years, died at her home at 2 o'clock Saturday morning.
Funeral services were held at the Barnard Funeral home at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon with Rev. Noel Orcutt of the Associated church in charge. Mrs. John Abels, with Mrs. Claus Lage as accompanist, sang "Abide With Me" Interment was in Grace Hill cemetery.
Alice Celia Koontz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Koontz was born October 14, 1859,at Bellevue; Iowa, where she grew up. She was married to Thomas Carr of Bellevue at Maquoketa, Iowa, in July 1889.
After her marriage she lived at Maquoketa until 1902 when she came to Hawarden with her family. For a number of years she lived on a farm northeast of Hawarden, but in 1910 she came to town to live. Her husband was sexton at the cemetory for many years. Mr. Carr died October 16, 1942.
Shs was ths was mother of six children, four of whom preceded her in death. Cora died in infancy; Lola died in October, 1910; Warren, who served in World War 1, died in March, 1919, and Charles died in 1939.
She is survived by two sons, Roy at home and Earl of Iowa Falls; one sister, Mrs. Mabel Blum of Los Angeles, Calif., and one brother, Belmen Koontz of Des Moines.
Besides raising her own children she and her husband took two children, Elmer and Rhoda Mingus, into their home when they were but two and four years, respectively. Rhoda is now Mrs. Walter Rupp. She and her brother both live in California.
