Katie de Haas.89, of Orange City died Wednesday, July 14 at Orange City Municipal Hospital.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City with the Rev. Jonathan Opgenorth officiating. Burial was in West Lawn Cemerery

Mrs. de Haas was born June 12, 1910, in Boyden, the daughter of Walter and Jennie(de Vries)Vander Well. She was raised in Rock Valley. She married Frank de Haas on October23, 1940 in Rock Valley. She assisted him in his photography and gunsmithing business. When he became an author, she assisted him in writing articles and books about shooting and firearms. He died December 19, 1994, in Orange City. She entered Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City in January 1999. She was a member of Trinity Reformed Church and enjoyed reading,sewing and baking.

Surivors include a son and his wife Mark and Linda of Brooklyn, Missouri; a daughter and her husband, Judi and George Burgers of Sioux Falls; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Steve and Herman Vander Well; and a sister Anna Vander well.

Memorials may be directed to charities for the deaf.
