Prominent Farm Leader Succumbs
W. H. Miller, 65, of Elk Point, prominent Union county farm leader, died Sunday at his home of a cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. and Mrs. Miller were about to go to church when he was stricken and died a few minutes later.
About two months ago Mr. Miller blacked out and remained unconscious for several days. At this time he was cared for in a Sioux City Hospital
Funeral services will be held at the Congregaional church in Elk Point at 1 o'clock this afternoon and at the Associated church in Hawarden at 2:30. Rev. Elbe will be in charge of the service at Elk Point and Rev. T. A. Mangen will be in charge of the services here. Mrs. Ralph Gregg, Jr., will sing. Burial will be in Grace Hill cemetery under the direction of the Anderson Funeral service of Elk Point and the Barnard service of Hawarden. William Miller was born July 15, 1885, on the Wilson Miller homestead in Union county, northwest of Hawarden where he grew to manhodd. On January 18, 1909 he married Margaret Rummel of Hawarden. He farmed near Hawarden until 1941 when he moved to Elk Point.
In 1941 he was elected AAA chairman of Union County and he still held this position at the time of his death. He was also a member of the county crop improvement associaiotn of Union County.
When Mr. Miller lived near Hawarden he served on the school board in the Finnie district from 1918-1941. Throughout WWII he was chairman of the agricultural war board.
Survivors besides the widow are four sons, Robert B. of Alcester, James W. of Milwaukee WI, Bruce of Hawarden and Neil of Madison WI, one daughter, Mrs. John Beckman of Chicago; three sisters, Mrs. Wm. Finnie of Waverly MN, Miss Edith Miller of Hawarden and Mrs. Kenneth Johnson of Milwaukee; two brothers, R. Charles and James M., both of Hawarden and eight grandchildren.
