Evelyn De Groot,56, of Bakersfield, California, formerly of Ireton, died Monday, March 12, of injuries suffered in the crash of a small plane at Phoenix, Arizona.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 16, at First Reformed Church in Ireton with the Rev. Steven Bakker officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireon.

The former Evelyn Van Middendorp was born November 26, 1933 in Freborn County, Minnesota, and attended school in Rock Valley. She married Louis De Groot September 19, 1956, in Luverne, Minnesota. The couple moved to Ireton in 1960. He died November 20, 1980, and she moved to Balersfield after his death. She worked for her brother as a machinist. She was a member of the Mavericks Dance Clubs.

Suriviors include a son, Doug of Bakersfield; her mother, Grace Van Middendorp of Rock Valley; three brothers, John of Brooking, Oregon, Marion of Bakersfield and Alvin of Grand Rapids, Michigan; three sisters, Grace Olson of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Jeanette Bailey of Morley, Michigan and Esther Fincher of Tempe, Arizona; and two grandchildren.
