Delma Broek, 79 of Sioux Center died Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at the Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota in Sioux Falls.
Memorial services will be held Friday at 11:00am at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Stephen Rhoda and Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
The Broek Family prefers memorials be directed to Royale Meadows Care Center and Franken Manor, c/o Sioux Center Community Hospital Foundation.
Delma Broek, the daughter of John A. and Henrietta (Sandbulte) Schuiteman was born February 6, 1928 in Sioux Center, Iowa. She attended country school through the eighth grade.
Delma was united in marriage to John B. Broek on January 13, 1950. John and Delma farmed for 33 years north of Sioux Center where they, together, ran a Purebred Swine operation. John and Delma enjoyed traveling together throughout the Midwest.
In 1983, Delma and John moved to Sioux Center. Delma worked in the Dordt College mailroom for 23 years and formed many friendships with Dordt students and staff. She retired in 2006.
Delma's passions in life were her children and grandchildren. Delma was also a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church. She was active in Harmony Workers as well as the Sioux County Porkettes. Delma passed away on October 16, 2007 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota reaching the age of 79 years, 8 months and 10 days. Delma leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 57 years, John B. Broek; three children: Jeff Broek, Denise Rodenburgh and her husband Jim all of Sioux Center, and Sandy Byrnes and her husband Brian of Suprise, AZ. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Jessica and Nick Atwood of Sioux Falls, SD, Danielle Broek of Orlando, FL, Amber Scholten, Brittney and Jovan Ibarra, Jonathan Scholten, Taylor Rodenburgh, Austin Rodenburgh all of Sioux Center, Kaitlin Byrnes of Suprise, AZ and one great-grandchild, Danica Garcia of Sioux Center. Delma is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law: Art and Frances Schuiteman, of Sioux Center, Robert and Helene Schuiteman of Sheldon; one sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Norman De Jongh of Luverne, MN; one sister-in-law, Wilmina Schuiteman of Sioux Center; one brother-in-law, Bernie Van't Hul of Sheldon; two sisters-in-law: Thelma Broek and Priscilla Broek; brother-in-law, Joe Van Roekel and brother-in-law an sister-in-law, Delbert and Anafeen Broek all of Sioux Center.
Delma was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Arvin Schuiteman; a sister, Wilmina Van't Hul; granddaughter, Amy Jo Broek; parents-in-law, Bert and Dena Broek; brothers-in-law: Barney and Dave Broek; sisters-in-law: Margaret Van Roekel and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lillian and Warren Van Roekel.
