Adelyn de Boom, 71, of Sioux Center died Saturday, July 10, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City after a five month battle with multiple myeloma, a rare type of cancer. A memorial service was held July 14, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Dr. J. B. Hulst will officiate. Interment was held prior to the memorial service at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center was in charge of arrangements.

Adelyn Ruth de Boom, was born Sept. 27, 1932 the daughter of Henry and Sadie (Westra) Netten near Lebanon, Iowa. She was raised in the Lebanon and Ireton area. She graduated from Western Christian High School and attended Northwestern and Westmar colleges and earned a teaching certificate. She taught in a country school for two years. She married Conard de Boom on March 5, 1952 at the Ireton Christian Reformed Church. They farmed in the Ireton area until 1996. They retired to Sioux Center in 1999.

Adelyn was a member of Ireton Christian Reformed Church and later of Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. She was a member of Mary’s Fellowship, The Red Hat Society, Bible study groups, and served the church as a Sunday school teacher and Calvinette Counselor.

Survivors include her husband Conard de Boom of Sioux Center; a son Terry de Boom of Worthington, Minn.; five daughters Cheryl Clark of Mason City, Iowa, Linda Ellens of Brighton, Mich., Judy of Omaha, Neb., Laura of Des Moines, and Cindy Eekhoff of Pella; 16 grandchildren; two brothers, Pete Netten of Rock Valley and Harold of Garden Valley, Idaho; a sister Sharon Gadomski of Springfield, Ore.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet de Boom.
