Jean was the daughter of Peter and Carrie (Sneller) Baartman.
On January 10, 1933, she married Cornie Brunsting at Middleburg, Iowa. They lived in northwest Iowa, mostly Boyden, where she was a housewife and loving mother of five children.
In April of 1991, Jean and Cornie moved to Sioux Falls, to be closer to their children. They became residents of Sunnycrest Retirement Village. Mr. Brunsting passed away January 15, 1995, at Sioux Falls.
Jean was a member of the Sunnycrest Ladies Auxiliary and the Sunnycrest United Methodist Church, where she was active in Martha Circle and Golden Glow. She also remained a member of First Reformed Church in Boyden.
Survivors include her five children; Ruby and her husband, Ed Den Herder of Wakefield, NE, Carole Ten Braak of Sioux Falls, Corleen and her husband, Allan Meendering of Sioux Falls, Peter Brunsting and his wife, Denise of Brookings, and Dennis and his wife, Sue of Sioux Falls; twenty-three grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren: and one brother, Edward Baartman, of Alta, Iowa.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cornie, a son-in-law, Richard Ten Braak, a grandson, and her brother, Peter Baartman.
