Mrs. Joyce Ann Kool, age 82, of Orange City, Iowa, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, November 1, 2010, at her residence.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, November 6, at 11:00am, at the Dover Avenue Alliance Church in Orange City. The Rev. Jay Anderson, the Rev. Mark Elliott, the Rev. Jeffrey Keady, and Deacon Troy Calhoun will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Nassau Township Cemetery, near Alton, Iowa.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Joyce Ann was born on February 14, 1928, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of the Rev. Dr. J. H. and Flossie (Cosby) Woodward. Joyce’s father was the founding pastor of the Dover Avenue Alliance Church. She was raised in Hamilton, Boone, Sioux City, and Orange City, Iowa. She attended Crown College in Minnesota and Taylor University in Indiana, majoring in music.

On June 12, 1950, she married C. Orville Kool at the Alton Reformed Church in Iowa. They served Baptist churches in Aurora, Bloomington, Skokie, St. Charles, and Bethalto, Illinois; Sioux City; and Normal, Illinois. They were also church planters for the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Orange City.

In addition to being a devoted pastor’s wife and loving mother of four children, Joyce served as the assistant personnel director at the Alton Memorial Hospital in Illinois, and she was also a legal secretary.

Wherever they served, she was active in their church, often serving as a Choir Director, Sunday School Director, women’s organization leader, pianist, and organist of both pipe and electronic organs. She was currently a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church.

She enjoyed gardening and entertaining family and friends.

Survivors include her husband of more than sixty years; four children, Keith Kool, of Litchfield, Maine; Kendra, and her husband, Philip Gruszka, of Wexford, Pennsylvania; Kurt Kool, and his wife, Vicky, of Bailey, Colorado; and Karla, and her husband, Stuart Dekkenga, of Le Mars, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Melanie Kool, of Asheville, North Carolina; Jonathan Kool, of Bailey, Colorado; Kristin Wright, of Peyton, Colorado; Ashley Kool, of Littleton, Colorado; Brent and Jeremy Gruszka, both of Wexford, Pennsylvania; Katie Berry, of Northglenn, Colorado; Kinzie Dekkenga, of Denver, Colorado; and Kolby Dekkenga, of Westminster, Colorado; five great grandchildren; and a sister, Pearl Eckert, of Scottsdale, Arizona.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Faith Hall and Muriel David.
