Leo A. Bathen
Mr. Leo A. Bathen, age 85, Alton, passed away Friday, Feb. 6, at the Heritage House in Orange City.Leo Adelbert Bathen was born April 1, 1895, at Riceville. On Feb. 22, 1920, he married Adelaide C Minkebige at Kaukauna, Wisc. They lived in Riceville, where Mr. Bathen was a rural mail carrier. They moved to Alton in 1964. He entered the Heritage House in 1977. Mr. Bathen was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. He was a veteran of World War I and a former commander of the Riceville American Legion. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife; one son, James H., of Alton; one daughter, Mrs. Jerris (Betty Lee) Kesten, of Downey, Calif.: 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 9 at St. Mary's Church. The Rev. Fr, David Hogan officiated. Interment followed at St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary services were held Sunday at the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.Casket bearers were Alvin Full, Rodney Probst Joseph Kellen, Val Plagge, Norbert Hansen and Randy Van Roekel
