Mrs. Nelvina De Groot, age 83, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at the Orange City Area health System Hospital.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, March 28, at 10:00am, at the
Redeemer United Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Jeremy
Wiersema, grandson-in-law, will officiate. Interment will follow at the West
Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Thursday,
with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral
Home in Orange City.
Nelvina Elizabeth was born on May 12, 1924, at Orange City, the daughter of John and Marie (Vander Griend) Kroeze. She was raised in the Middleburg area, where she attended a country school.
On September 26, 1945, she married John William De Groot in Orange City. They farmed at Sheldon and at Orange City. Later, they moved to Alton and more recently they lived on the west side of Orange City. In March of 2006, they became residents of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City.
Mrs. De Groot was a member of the Redeemer United Reformed Church and their Ruth Circle. In earlier years, she belonged to the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City and the Faith, Hope, and Love Society there. She had also been active in the Monica Society of the Orange City Christian School.
She enjoyed crocheting and assembling puzzles., and she was an avid
gardener.
Survivors include her husband of more than 62 years; two daughters and their husbands, Eileen and Larry Fedders, of Sheldon; and Mary and Terry Huhers, of Sioux Center; two sons and their wives, Merlin and Betty De Groot, of Sheldon; and Jerry and Marlys De Groot, of Alton; fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ida Kuyper, of Orange City; and Jackie Keizer, of Sheldon; and a sister-in-law, Frances Kroeze, of Sheldon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Herm and Gerrit Kroeze.
