W. B. Card Passed Away at His Home in Elk Point Nov. 22nd

W. B. Card, one of Union county's oldest pioneers, passed away at his home at Elk Point Saturday afternoon, Nov. 22nd. He suffered a stroke of paralysis about fifteen days before his death and he grew weaker gradually and his death was not unexpected.

Woodbury Card was born at St. Andrews, Quebec, Canada, Oct. 9, 1839, being 91 years, 1 month and 13 days old at the time of his death. Up until a short time before his death he was active and up and around and until about a year ago was able to read newspapers closely and kept well informed.

He was united in marriage with Hannah Smith at Bolton, Ontario, Canada, Dec. 13, 1858. In the spring of 1872 he brought his family to Union county and located on a farm near Elk Point. His wife died May 17, 1909. He is survived by two sons, Alexander Card of Hawarden and William J. Card of Elk Point, and one daughter, Mrs. Abbie Beckers of Elk Point. He also leaves a brother, George Card of Vancouver, Wash., and a sister, Mrs. Abbie Lane of Buffalo, N.Y., besides 19 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren.

The deceased was well and favorably known in Hawarden, having been a frequent visitor here at the home of his son.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church at Elk Point at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon of last week with Rev. H. M. Bisell and Rev. J. N. Oakley officiating. Burial was made in the cemetery at Elk Point.
