Death of Alex. Card's Sister

Mrs. George Harkness, a resident of Union county and Akron for many years, passed away Sunday, April 6th, at the Akron hospital following an operation for appendicitis. Margaret Emily Card was born at Weston, Ontario, Canada, Aug. 3, 1865, and so was 64 years, 8 months and 3 days of age at the time of her death. She moved to Union county with her parents and lived in the vicinity of Elk Point until she was married. She was united in marriage with George Harkness April 11, 1877[??]. Mr. and Mrs. Harkness lived at Gregory, S.D., for five years and for two years they lived in Wisconsin but the rest of their life was spent in and near Akron. She was the mother of ten children, six sons dying in infancy. Besides her husband she is survived by four children, Harvey Harkness of Union county, S.D.; Mrs. Art Anderson of Westfield; Mrs. John Lambert of Akron and Mrs. Fern Anderson of LeMars; her aged father, Woodbury Card of Elk Point; two brothers, Alex Card of Hawarden and William Card of Elk Point; and one sister, Mrs. Abbie Becker of Elk Point.
