Mrs. Alex Card, an early day resident of Plymouth county and who for more than 30 years lived in the Hawarden community, passed away at the Hawarden hospital last Friday morning [March 6]. Mrs. Card had been in the hospital for two weeks and her condition was critical during this time so the end was not unexpected.

Funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Miller, northwest of Hawarden, at 2:30 Sunday afternoon with Rev. R. F. Chapler in charge. Burial was in Pleasant Valley cemetery.

Alice M. Wilcox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Austin Wilcox, was born near Red Wing, Minn., Jan. 12, 1866, and passed away Mar. 6, 1942, at the age of 76 years, one month and 22 days. She came to Iowa with her parents when a girl, locating at Spirit Lake and later she lived at Boone.

In 1888 she was united in marriage with Alex Card of Akron. Five children were born to this union, three of whom preceded her in death. Her husband passed away in 1932. For the past several years she lived in Hawarden and her sister, Miss Nettie Wilcox made her home with her.

She is survived by two children, Mrs. James Miller of Hawarden and Earl Card of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Dorothy, Robert, Quinton and Alice Marie Miller; one sister, Miss Nettie Wilcox of Akron, and two brothers, E. A. Wilcox of Canton and Arthur Wilcox of Akron.

Mrs. Card was of a quiet and unassuming personality and her home was her chief interest. She was a member of the Methodist church and when her health permitted she was a faithful attendant.

Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Miss Dorothy Miller of Alton, Robert Miller, who is a student at the Iowa State college at Ames, Miss Nettie Wilcox, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wilcox and Mrs. Bessie Wilcox and son Floyd of Akron, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Johnson of Odebolt, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Wilcox of Canton, and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Card of Sioux Falls.
