Gerrit Bruxvoort, 85, of Orange City died Tuesday, July 5, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.Services were at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Ralph A. Pontier officiating.Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.Bruxvoort was born October 31. 1908, in Crookston, Minnesota, the son of Herman and Johanna (Meinders) Bruxvoort. He was raised in Minnesota and moved to the Orange City area with his family when he was a teenager. He married Ollie Starkenburg, April 6, 1934, in Orange City. They farmed in the Orange City area until 1978, when they moved into town. In later years, he was a night watchman at Silent Sioux and on the maintenance staff at K Products, both in Orange City. In December 1993 he became a resident of the Long-Term Care Facility at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, where he had served on the consistory as an elder. He had also been a member of Christian School’s board of directors. Survivors include his wife: two daughters and their husbands, Muriel and Peter G. Ravestein of Orange City and Carol and Donald Altena of Sioux Center; five sons and their wives, Herbert and Joan, Gordon and Pat, Orville and Joyce and Donald and Sherri, all of Orange City, and Wesley and Audrey of St. Paul, Minnesota: three sisters, Effie Bremer of Hudsonville, Michigan, Anne Van Kalsbeek of Hospers and Hermina Bloemendaal of Orange City; two brothers, Brandt of Sheldon and John of Luverne, Minnesota; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
