From the Alton Democrat of March 24, 1894
Werner Johanning, aged 23/24, who came from Dubuque county about March 1st and resided on a farm about five miles south of town, died last Tuesday. The funeral services were held at St. Mary's church Wednesday. Father Peschong celebrated the requeim mass and Father Tierney of Granville, delivered the sermon.
(No further information of Werner could be found other than he possibly had a brother Henry as found in census records.)
