DEATH OF JOHN CANNEGIETER

John Cannegieter died at his home near Rock Valley Sunday, Jan. 5th, after a few days illness with pneumonia which followed influenza. He was sixty-one years and six days old.

The subject of this sketch was born in the Netherlands Dec. 30th, 1857. There he spent his early life and grew to manhood. He came to this country in 1882, coming directly to Sioux County. After a few years residence here he went to South Dakota where he was united in marriage to Miss Maggie Frankenheil. Later with his family he moved to Hornick, Iowa, and from there to Neleigh, Nebraska, and then back to Sioux County where he had lived for the past seven years or more on a farm near Rock Valley.

Besides his wife he leaves to mourn nine children, all of whom live in Rock Valley and vicinity. They are Mrs. M. Harmsen, Mrs. Hessel Roorda, Mrs. P. Heemstra, Nellie, John, Ann, Emma, Jake and George.

Short funeral services were held Wednesday from the home, and the remains were taken to Valley View Cemetery for burial.

The deceased was a man who was kind to his family, useful in the community where he lived, and was highly respected by all who knew him. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of many friends in their sorrow.
