Harry J. Lankhorst, 84, former mayor of Hawarden, died Nov. 19, 1992, in Mesa, Ariz., of injuries suffered in a car motorcycle accident.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Associated church in Hawarden with Rev. Fredrich Mellberg officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill cemetery in Hawarden, under direction of Porter- Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Mr. Lankhorst was born March 3, 1908, in Monroe, S.D., the son of Henrick and Everdine (Visser) Lankhorst. He moved to Hawarden in 1926. He married Margaret Schoeneman June 19, 1930. He operated a meat market and owned and operated a movie theater from 1936. to 1963. He then was in partnership in the Gearhart Real Estate Agency. The couple had spent the winters in Arizona for the last 20 years. Mr. Lankhorst served as mayor of Hawarden (1956-1962) and (1977-1988). He was past secretary and cycle' corps leader with the Hawarden Chamber of Commerce. He was a 50-year member of Rotary International; past member of the Masonic Lodge, Shrine, and Hawarden Economic Development Corporation. He served on the board of directors of Sioux Empire College and currently was a member of the Associated church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Douglas of Hawarden; a daughter-in-law, Grace of California; a brother, John Lankhorst of Hawarden; a sister, Geraldine Lankhorst of Sioux City; and three grandchildren.
