Braaks, Carl Hans 1912 - 1992

BRAAKS, PIERSON, AMEN

Carl Hans Braaks, 80, a retired Ireton blacksmith, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1992 at a Sioux City hospital.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton. Rev. Perry Schefelker officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery in Ireton, under direction of the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Ireton.

Mr. Braaks was born Aug. 19, 1912 in Ireton, the son of Henry and Anna (Amen) Braaks. He graduated from the Ireton High School. He married Lela Pierson at Ireton, April 22, 1941. The couple made their home in Ireton where he was a blacksmith, with his father and later his brother, Louis. He retired in 1980. Mrs. Braaks died Jan. 17, 1992.

Mr. Braaks was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton, where he was a lifetime member. He was a member of the Ireton fire department for 39 years.

Survivors include two sons, Carl Dean Braaks of Bedford, Texas, and Donald Lee Braaks and his wife, Tere of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister Erma Flippen of Upland, Calif., and two grandchildren, Yvette and Robert Braaks; and an aunt, Etta (Braaks) Johnson of Aurelia, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth and Kathryn; and a brother, Louis.
