From the Alton Democrat of April 8, 1893 Maurice news.
Thomas Linnan who for the past two years has resided in the vicinity of Rock Valley, but formerly of this place, (Maurice) died at St. Jospeh's Hospital in Sioux City Friday March 31th, when he was stricken down with pneumonia. From that time until his death the tenderest care wand best medical aid were lavished upon him, but all in vain. His death was very peaceful, only a gentle smile told then the spirit took its flight. He was born August 8th 1869, and was in this 24th year of life. Tom was a Maurice boy and grew to manhood among us, and his death coming as it does in the prime of a useful life with a glorious future before him, is sad indeed. He was a bright, intelligent, honest young man and everybody was his friend. The expression of sorrow was universal when the news of his illness and death reached the public. The funeral occurred from St. Mary's church here Monday morning, and was conducted by Rev. Donahue before a large concourse of mourners and friends. The funeral being on of the largest ever held in this vicinity. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad affliction.
(Thomas was the son of Patrick Linnane 1823-1884 and Johanna Salby 1837-1977, siblings were, Elizabeth, Mary, John, and Catherine)
