HAWARDEN, Iowa -- Marvin J. "Mannie" Huenink, 84, of Hawarden died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at the Hawarden Community Hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hawarden Christian Reformed Church, with the Rev. Tom Van Engen officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the church. Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family.

Marvin J. "Mannie" Huenink was born March 16, 1926, in Alcester, S.D., the son of Richard and Hattie (Vander Ven) Huenink. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II as a military policeman in the Philippines.

Marvin married Nellie Haverhals on Feb. 18, 1948, in Lebanon, Iowa. They farmed east of Hudson, S.D., and later farmed near Alcester, S.D., for 18 years. They moved into Hawarden in 1977.

Marvin enjoyed running his corn sheller (his favorite job), and enjoyed ice fishing and picking up aluminum cans. He sold Archer Oil for many years and built many windmills and utility trailers. He was a member of the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church and served as a deacon. He also was a member of the Alcester Veterans of Foreign Wars and past country school board member.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie; sons, Larry (Wanda) Huenink and Bob (Karen) Huenink, both of Alcester and James Huenink of Hawarden; daughter, Donna (Cal) Ten Braak of Gillette, Wyo.; seven grandchildren, Tim (Kristi) Huenink, Kimberly (Todd) Hazel, Katie (Tim) Manning, Ryan Huenink, Holly (Bob) Isenberger, Heather (Dustin) Martinson, and Andrew Ten Braak; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Oschner, Talen Hazel, Mason and Jenna Manning, Jillian and McKenna Huenink, Tyzer, Tadlee, Tryce, and Tripp Isenberger, and Bella Ray Martinson; brothers, Richard Huenink and Harold (Evelyn) Huenink, both of Lincoln, Neb.; sisters, Ann Van Sloten of Hawarden, Edna (Lloyd) Prange and Pearl (Wilbur) Weiskamp of Firth, Neb., Henrietta (Glenn) Prange of Holland, Neb., and Dorothy Topp of Richmond, Kan.; sisters-in-law, Grace Huenink and Evelyn Huenink, of Hawarden; and many nephews and nieces.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Jill Renae Huenink; brothers, Gerrit (Leona) Huenink, Wilbur (Henrietta) Huenink, and Henry Huenink; and brothers-in-law, Arnold Topp and Henry Van Sloten.
