RITES HELD FOR ALTON'S OLDEST RESIDENT, MRS. G. HENRICH

Mrs. Gertrude Henrich, beloved pioneer and Alton's oldest resident, died at her home Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 1:15 p.m. after a short illness.

"Granny" Henrich, as she was known to family and friends, was 97 years old and resided in Alton for the past 77 years. She was the former Gertrude Kass--from another well known early Alton family--and was born Nov. 25, 1866 in Caledonia, Minn. She was married at Alton Nov. 22, 1887, to Nicholas Henrich.

Survivors include three children: Mrs. Wayne Ker of Quincy, Wash.; Mrs. Ray Lubbehusen of Glendale, Mo. and Mrs. Joseph List of Alton; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Young, age 99, of Minneapolis, Minn. and Mrs. Josephine Henrich, age 92, of Southfield, Mich.; 15 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas, on Jan. 25, 1901; a son, Wilfred in 1962; and by 2 daughters and a son in infancy.

A member for many years of St. Mary's Rosary Society, Mrs. Henrich continued to take an active interest in her church and community and to enjoy her home. Her hobbies included raising flowers and plants and making quilts. Devoted to her family, she was also loved for her kindness to neighbors and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Saturday, Feb. 22, at St. Mary's Church, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Zeno Reising officiating.

Attending the funeral from a distance were Messrs. and Mesdames John Kass and Ed Kass of Tracy, Minn., Melvin Reuter, Sauk Centre, Minn., Wayne Ker, Quincy, Wash., Miss Dorothy List, Mrs. Florence Henrich and sons, Wilfred, Franklin and Matthew, Sioux City; Messrs. and Mesdames Eldon Ruden, Joe Ruden, Richard Kaschmitter, LeMars; Lawrence Brady, John Brady, Marcus; Gerald Delperdang, Donald Delperdang, Ronald Delperdang, Alphonse Delperdang, Mr. Geo. Delperdang, Remsen; and from Granville the Melvin List, James List and Ray List families; Mr. Jake List, Mrs. Margaret Arens, Mr. and Mrs. George Callenius; also many friends from Alton and neighboring communities.
