From the Alton Democrat of Jan 28, 1893, Hospers Happenings.
The wife of John Hofland residing northwest of town, died Thursday, and the funeral services were held at Alton Saturday. The bereaved husband and family have the sympathy of the entire neighborhood in their deep affliction.

(She is buried in Nassau Tsp Cem Alton, Mrs. Dena Hofland 1873 died 23 Jan 1893.)
There were several John Hoflands in the area 1900 census, not sure which one it was if them as they could have remarried.)
