Joe, Matthew, Nic and John Thiel and Mrs. and Mrs. Raymond of Cherokee attended the fauneral of their father M. Thiel in this city Monday. Mr. Thiel died Friday of dropsy, he was one of Alton's old citizens. He leaves ten children to mourn his death.

In the 1885 census of Alton, Mathias b. 1823 in Germany age 62, wife Cathrina abe 51, children living at home were - Maria 15, George 12, Cathina 8.)
