IRETON, Iowa -- Kenneth "Ken" Van Wyk, 31, of rural Ireton died suddenly Friday, July 18, 2003, from the result of a farm accident.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ireton Community Center in Ireton, with the Rev. David Kramer officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ireton. Visitation will be noon to 4:30 p.m. today at Porter Funeral Home in Ireton. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today, followed by visitation with the family until 8:30 p.m., at Ireton Community Center.

Kenneth "Ken" Van Wyk was born Feb. 26, 1972, at Akron, Iowa, the son of John and Betty (Hoffman) Van Wyk Sr. He graduated from West Sioux High School in 1990.

Ken married Michelle Nabity on June 15, 1996, at Alcester, S.D. They made their home in Ireton for eight months and then moved to their acreage northeast of Ireton. Ken was employed at Bar-K Farms at Carmel, Iowa.

He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church of Sioux Center and Hawarden Saddle Club. Ken enjoyed working on tractors, tractor pulls and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Michelle; two sons, Cody and Cade; his parents, John and Betty Van Wyk of Ireton; two brothers, Johnny Van Wyk and his wife, Selene of Alcester, and Pat Van Wyk of Ireton; a sister, Julie Schipper and her husband, Dan of Ireton; his parents-in-law, Melissa and Steve Eggen of Beresford, S.D., and Larry and Mary Nabity of Alcester; four brothers-in-law; a sister-in-law; and five nephews and nieces.
