Carl Simon Lange was born January 27, 1915 at Rock Valley, Iowa, the son of Emil and Marie (Behrman) Lange. He grew up and attended country school in the Rock Valley area. On December 28, 1941 Carl was united in marriage to Frances Moeller at Sioux Center, Iowa. Following the marriage Carl and Frances farmed the Lange homestead near Rock Valley. In 1946 they purchased a farm near Rock Rapids, Iowa, where they lived for the next twenty-six years. In 1972 Carl and Frances moved into Rock Rapids to enjoy their retirement.

Carl was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids and served terms as president and also treasurer. He also truly enjoyed playing cards with his buddies downtown and also going to coffee with them. For the past thirty years Carl and Frances wintered in Pharr, Texas and during this time developed many friendships. In his leisure time at home Carl enjoyed reading and remained up to date on current events. Five years ago Carl was diagnosed as having parkinson disease and has remained as active as possible during that time. On June 6, 1999 Carl was no longer able to remain at home and became a resident of Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Rock Rapids, where he remained until his hospitalization and death.

Surviving is his wife of fifty-eight years, Frances, of Rock Valley; Jill, of Atlanta, Georgia; Alvin Lange and fiancee, Rhoda Venenga, Rock Rapids; and Lavon Kearney and husband, Jim, of Racine, Wisconsin. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren along with two sisters: Elsie Lohman and Emma Brinkhous, both of Rock Rapids, and a brother, Emil, of Rock Valley.

Preceding Carl in death were his parents, two sisters (Anna Benson and Frieda Rohder), and an infant granddaughter.
