Hospers, John, died 1900 age 49

John Hospers, eldest son of Hon. Henry Hospers, died at Springfield, S.D., Monday morning after an illness of about a week. Deceased was 49 years old and well known in this, his old home, where he had many friends. Mr. Hospers was in Orange City some four weeks since but was not well at that time. A wife and six children survive him. Mr. and Mrs. A. Smeenk went out to Springfield Monday to arrange for the funeral, which will be held there, and were followed yesterday by W. H. Hospers, John T. Klein and Mrs. J. G. Lankelma, who is a sister of Mrs. Hospers. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the stricken family.

A note about his death in the Alton Democrat of Feb. 17, 1900, adds that he was in the newspaper business and that Mrs. Smeenk is his sister.
