DEATH FOLLOWS LONG ILLNESS -- CANCER PROVES FATAL TO MRS. ADELINE LUCHSINGER -- Passed Away Sunday Evening at Her Home in Sioux City -- Resided in Hawarden for Many Years
Mrs. Adeline Luchsinger, a pioneer resident of this vicinity, passed away at her home in Sioux City about 10 o'clock Sunday evening [July 13] following an illness of several months from cancer. In company with her daughter, Miss Carrie Luchsinger, she spent last winter in California, returning to Sioux City about three months ago. Shortly after returning she submitted to an operation at St. Joseph's hospital when the true nature of her trouble was revealed and it became known that there was no help for her condition. As soon as possible she was removed to her home where she has since been bedfast most of the time until death relieved her of her suffering.
Funeral services were held at St. Boniface Catholic church in Sioux City at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning and interment was made in Mt. Calvary cemetery.
Adeline Le Moges was born at Dubuque, Iowa, Oct. 18, 1855, so at the time of her death had reached the age of 68 years, 8 months and 25 days. In 1873 she was united in marriage with Casper Luchsinger and following their marriage they located at Jefferson, S.D., where they resided for a number of years. In 1882 they moved onto a farm a few miles west of Hawarden and in 1888 moved to town and continued to make their home here until about five years ago when they moved to Sioux City. Mr. Luchsinger was for many years a rural route carrier out of Hawarden and their removal to Sioux City followed his retirement from the postal service upon reaching the age when he was entitled to receive a pension. He lived but a very short time after moving to Sioux City.
Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Luchsinger, nine of whom survive, one having died in infancy. The children are: P. M. and L. A. Luchsinger of Hawarden; George and Charles Luchsinger of Sioux City; John Luchsinger of Denison, Calif.; Mrs. J. C. Osborne of Alberta, Canada; Mrs. Merrill Stevens, Mrs. Donald Smith and Miss Carrie Luchsinger of Sioux City. All of the children except John and Mrs. Osborne were present at the funeral.
She is also survived by one step-daughter, Mrs. Celina Keivel of Hawarden, and by ten grandchildren. In addition she leaves three brothers and one sister, Chas. Le Moges of Beresford; Louis LeMoges of Vermillion, Peter Le Moges of Sioux City and Mrs. Josephine La Brune of Jefferson, S.D.
Mrs. Luchsinger was a devout Christian woman who found her greatest pleasure in providing for the comfort of her family. She was a good neighbor and hosts of old Hawarden friends will join with the members of her family in mourning her death.
