Dr. Anthony Mann, for more than forty years a practicing dentist in this city and one of Hawarden's most highly esteemed citizens, passed away at 10:45 last Friday night at his home here following an illness of several months from cancer of the liver. Dr. Mann's heath first began to fail perceptibly early this spring and the nature of his ailment was soon determined and it was realized that he could not recover. He was bedfast for nearly two months preceding his death during which time he suffered intensely but without complaint. The end came as a welcome relief to his suffering.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic church in this city at 10 o'clock Monday morning, conducted by Rev. Fr. C. P. Conway, and interment was made in the cemetery here. Hawarden business houses were closed during the funeral hour as a mark of respect to the memory of the deceased. Out of town relatives who attended the funeral included Mr. & Mrs. Mike Doctor of Dallas, S.D., and Mr. & Mrs. G. G. Warner and daughters, Harriet and Minerva, of Gregory, S.D.

Dr. Anthony Mann was born in Alma, Wis., June 1, 1868, so was a little more than 61 years of age at the time of his death. He was educated in the public schools of Alma where he grew to young manhood when he went to Chicago where he graduated from the Chicago College of Dental Surgery in May, 1888. That fall he came to Hawarden as the town's first resident dentist and from that time until he was forced to give up his practice in April of this year, followed his profession here continuously. On Nov. 23, 1904, he was united in marriage with Susan B. Kennedy. One daughter, Mildred was born to this union. Besides the widow and daughter he is survived by one brother, George Mann of Harvey, Ill, and three sisters, Mrs. Christian Ginskey of St. Joseph, Mo., Mrs. J. Weinandy of Buffalo City, Wis., and Mrs. Mary Probst of Moorhead. Minn.
