Henry Verburg was born on June 20, 1915, in Rock Valley, Iowa. He was the son of Klaas and Hendricka (Beek) Verburg. He lived his youth in Rock Valley where he attended the Christian School.
He was united in marriage to Anna De Bruin of Rock Valley, on February 24, 1939, in Rock Valley. They farmed near Rock Valley until 1943, when they moved to a farm south of Sheldon, where they lived until 1973, when they retired and moved into Sheldon. In 2006, they moved to the Christian Retirement Home.
Henry was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, where he served as a deacon. He also served on the Christian Retirement Home Board and as a volunteer at Oak Park Nursing Home.
Henry was recognized in 1956 for being an Iowa Master Swine Producer. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, traveling, golfing and playing cards. His hobby was raising African Violets.
His church and family were the most important part of his life.
He passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Sanford Sheldon Senior Care.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 71 years: Anna Verburg of Sheldon, IA; his children: Joyce and Orville De Boer of Ellsworth, MN, Edwin and Bonnie Verburg of Sheldon, IA, Francene and Dan Dykstra of Hospers, IA, Bradley and Diana Verburg of Sheldon, IA; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother: Richard and his wife Marian Verburg of Rock Valley, IA; 3 sisters-in-law: Gertrude Verburg of Mankato, MN, Wilma Boverhof of Grand Rapids, MI, Shirley De Bruin of Wyoming, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother: William Verburg; 2 sisters and their husbands: Nellie and William Van Wyhe, Marie and Albert Vink; brothers-in-law: Neal De Bruin and William Boverhof.
