February 9, 1950 - May 8, 2010
Mr. James Hoogland, age 60, of Maurice, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital in Orange City, Iowa.
There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, May 12, at 11:30am, at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. The Rev. John Lee and the Rev. Duane Tinklenberg will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Sherman Township Cemetery, near Maurice. There will be a prayer service on Wednesday, at 10:00am, at the church.
Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Tuesday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, and a Celebration of Life at 7:30pm, at the church. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
James Allen was born on February 9, 1950, in Orange City, the son of Peter J. and Gwendolyn Jean (Muilenburg) Hoogland. He was raised on farms between Maurice and Sioux Center, Iowa.
On August 10, 1973, he married Mary Jane Burgers in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They farmed west of Maurice for twenty years. In 1993, they moved to a farm northeast of Maurice. He was an all-around farmer, specializing in dairy.
Jim was a lifelong professing member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center.
Thankful for having shared his life are his wife, Mary (Burgers) Hoogland; seven children, Jennifer, and her husband, Curt Vlietstra and their children Jakob, Cade and Bryce of Edgerton, Minnesota; Martha, and her husband Ron Hulshof Jr. and their children Ethan, Tyrell, Cassidy, Wyatt and Cheyenne of Ireton, Iowa; Maranda and her husband Vasya Heytsi and their son Nataniel of Tyachiv, Ukraine; Janna and her husband Brian Aukes and their sons Jaren and Braden, of Hills, Minnesota; Sveta Schubert and her son Kyle, of Orange City, Iowa; Jordan and his wife Julie and their daughters Brooklyn and Sydney, of Maurice, Iowa; and Marlena and her husband Ryan DeJong and their daughter Morgan, of Orange City, Iowa. As well as his parents, Pete and Gwen Hoogland, of Sioux Center, Iowa; and two brothers and a sister and their spouses, Marvin and Judy Hoogland, of Maurice, Iowa; Glenda & Jan Altena, of Orange City, Iowa; and Peter Jr. and Kim Hoogland, of Sioux Center, Iowa and special family friends, Dean Hibma, and Minerva and Ken Small.
He is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kendra Grace Hulshof.
