December 18, 1923 - March 21, 2010
Mr. Tom De Jong, age 86, of Hull, passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2010, at the Whispering Heights Nursing Home in Rock Valley.

There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, March 24, at 11:00am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Paul Hansen will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a prayer service on Wednesday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Tuesday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 7:30pm, at the funeral home.

Tom was born on December 18, 1923, at Hull, the son of Edward and Dena (Jellema) De Jong. He was raised in rural Hull.

On June 23, 1948, he married Hilda Kroese in Hull. They farmed at Hull. In 1990, they moved into Hull. Mrs. De Jong passed away on April 8, 2006, in Rock Valley.

In February of 2007, Mr. De Jong became a resident of the Valley Manor Nursing Home (now Whispering Heights) in Rock Valley.

He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon and was chairman of the building committee when the new facility was constructed. He also belonged to the Wegman-Koele American Legion Post in Hull.

Tom and Hilda both enjoyed attending sporting events.

Survivors include his two sons and their wives, Glenn and Glenda De Jong and Dwayne and Dori De Jong, all of Hull; five grandchildren, Christopher De Jong, of Hull; Heidi, and her husband, Matt Dokter, of Hull; Tim De Jong, and his wife, Joni, of Baltic, South Dakota; Michael De Jong, and his wife, Kim, of Rock Valley; and Travis De Jong, of Cedar Rapids; eleven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn Boote, of Hull.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Missy De Jong; a brother and his wife, Arthur and Edith De Jong; and a brother-in-law, Don Boote.
