Obituary: Rock Valley, IA: LeRoy Bolkema, 78, of Rock Valley, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, IA. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Saturday at First Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday with the family present 6-8 pm at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley. Memorials may be directed to Hope Haven International Wheelchairs.

LeRoy Bolkema was born November 25, 1931 to John D. and Winnie (DeBoer) Bolkema in Hartley, IA. His family moved to Holland, MI and back to the Rock Valley, IA area where LeRoy attended Rock Valley Christian School and graduated from Western Christian High School. LeRoy married Elaine Van Veldhuizen on March 23, 1956 in Rock Valley. Together they lived in Rock Valley where LeRoy worked for Van Zee Ready mix as a driver and later as a dispatcher for a total of 46 years. He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church serving as both Deacon and Elder. LeRoy also served as school board member for the Rock Valley Christian School and Western Christian High School. He volunteered at Hope Haven International Ministries with wheelchairs for 10 years. LeRoy moved to Pleasant Acres Care Center on January 22, 2010.

LeRoy is survived by his wife Elaine; 4 children: Linda (Merlyn) Kroese of Hull, IA, David Bolkema of Centenial, CO, Pam (Rick) Overweg of Rock Valley, IA and Carla (Dan) Winder of Eagen, MN; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers: Kenneth Bolkema of Leota, MN, Marvin (Nina) Bolkema of Sheldon, IA, John L. (Betty) Bolkema of Hull, IA and Norman (Bess) Bolkema of Albuquerque, NM; 1 sister: Lucille Veltkamp of Rock Valley, IA; brother-in-law, Ronald (Gert) Van Veldhuizen of Rock Valley, IA; 3 sisters-in-law: Joan (Gerrit) Van Maanen of Rock Valley, IA, Claretta (John) Lobbes of Orange City, IA and Winifred Van Veldhuizen of Rock Valley, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Leonard Bolkema; 2 sisters: Bernice Bolkema and Johanna Van Gelderon; sister-in-law, Lucy Bolkema; 3 brothers-in-law: Henry Veltkamp, Arvid Van Gelderon and Edwin Van Veldhuizen.
