Obituary: Hawarden, Iowa- Earl P. Osterkamp, 73, of Hawarden, died Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Hawarden with Pastor Stuart Schreur officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. The Porter Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Earl P. Osterkamp was born September 14, 1936 in Mason City, Iowa, the son of John W. and Florence Edith (Olson) Osterkamp, Jr. He lived in Waterloo before moving to Hawarden at the age of 7. He attended country schools and graduated from West Sioux High School in 1954. Earl traveled to Denver and to California for work before he began farming with his father in 1957. He started C & R Gravel Pit with his brother in the late 1980’s.
Earl married LeSharon Kay Leeman on September 18, 1957. They farmed north of Hawarden. Earl loved going up north to fish with his kids and grandkids. Earl and Kay bought a place in Custer, SD in 1991 where they spent much of their time. Earl attended the First Baptist Church in Hawarden.
He is survived by his wife, Kay; their children, Cindy and Jim Seurer of Minneapolis, Robert and Diann Osterkamp of Sioux Falls, Steve and Teri Osterkamp of Hawarden, Russ and Patty Osterkamp of Hawarden, Stacey and Teri Osterkamp of Charles City, Iowa, the triplets: LeeAnn Beyer of Sioux Falls, Jill Hauge of Fairmont, Minnesota, and Shari Osterkamp and Tim Overhauser of Hawarden, and the twins: Judy and Phil Hooyer of Hawarden and William "Bill" and Misti Osterkamp of Hawarden; his sister, Cheryl Hepner and husband Carl of Rock Falls, Illinois; brothers-in-law, Warren and Donna Leeman of Sioux Falls and Rocky and Sue Leeman of Hudson, South Dakota; a sister-in-law, Bev Osterkamp of Hudson, South Dakota; 23 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.Earl was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Tyler Osterkamp; brother, Charles; sister, Phyllis Wilde; and 2 nephews, Phil Hepner and Charles Wilde.
