Mary spent her early years in Vermillion, SD graduating from Vermillion High School in 1934. She then attended the University of South Dakota where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Graduating in 1938 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, she then taught school in South Dakota for two years. She married Charles H. “Bo” Sedgwick, Jr., her college sweetheart, on July 20, 1940. In 1942 Mary returned to Vermillion with her first child, Ann, while Charles served in North Africa and Italy for three years during World War II. In 1970 Mary and Bo moved to Florida where they resided for 27 years. Mary was engaged in the banking business into her 70’s as she immensely enjoyed working with numbers and people. She retired in 1987 and moved to Fort Walton Beach for 3 years before moving back to Hawarden in 2000. During her last ten years in Hawarden, she greatly enjoyed church activities, playing bridge in several bridge clubs, and working as a volunteer cashier at the Hawarden Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop.
