Obituary: Hawarden, Iowa- Norman L. Klaus. 79, of Hawarden went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at his residence with his family present.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden with Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Burial will be in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Norman L. Klaus was born August 27, 1930 near Charter Oak, Iowa, the son of George and Laura (Nickoli) Klaus. He attended school at the Willow Tree Township #3 school. He was a devout Christian and was confirmed at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa. Norman served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict; he was a UT boat runner.
He married Mary Marshall on June 6, 1954 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute. He farmed and worked at the Sale Barn at Dunlap. He was also the township assessor for the Willow Township. In 1974 the Klaus family moved to Hawarden, Iowa where he worked at Iowa Lamb and later worked for Hope Haven.
Norman was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as head usher and also on the finance committee.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Randy Klaus and wife Becky of Hawarden, Pat Kern and husband Ted of LeMars, Iowa, Peggy Hicks, Martin Klaus, and Ron Klaus all of Hawarden; nieces, Jolene (Stan) Nading and Marlene Crum; nephew, Bruce (Shirley) Trulsen; brother-in-law, Bob (Carol) Marshall; 7 grandchildren; and 4 great-granddaughters.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edgar and Marvin in infancy; and sister, Gertrude Trulsen and her husband Harold.
