Obituary: Rock Valley, IA – Arie Van Veldhuizen, 81, died Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Whispering Heights of Rock Valley, IA. Funeral will be 2 pm Monday at Netherlands Reformed Congregation, Rock Valley. Burial at Valley View Cemetery. Rev. Bazen will officiate. Visitation with family present will be 6-8 pm Saturday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.
Arie was born February 26, 1928 in Artesia, CA, son of Aart and Cornelia (Brouwer) Van Veldhuizen. Arie married Joan Hoogendoorn on June 19, 1951 in Doon, Iowa. Joan passed away on June 21, 1974. Arie married Hermina Spaans on April 19, 1977 in Corsica, SD. They made their home near Doon and to this union, Robert Lee and Rebecca Lynn were born. In 1983 they moved to a farm west of Rock Valley where Arie continued farming. Arie was a Deacon for many years at Netherlands Reformed Congregation.

Arie is survived by his wife of 32 years, Hermina; children: Susan (John) Bauder of Glendo, WY, Kerry (Dick) Spitler of Greeley, CO, Arlyce (Peter) Den Boer of The Colony, TX, Julie (Gary) Klarenbeek of Auburn, AL, Avis (Alan) Bakker of Hull, IA, Paula (Thomas) Maassen, James (Sheri) Van Veldhuizen, Robert (Tasha) Van Veldhuizen all of Rock Valley, Rebecca (Thane) Fluit of Inwood; son-in-law, Kenny (Lenora) Van Hill of Alvord, IA; step-sons: Harlan (Susan) Spaans of Corsica, SD, David (Corinne) Spaans of Sioux Center, IA, Larry (Bonnie) Spaans of Rock Valley; 42 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; brothers: Peter Van Veldhuizen of Sioux Falls, Cornie (Bernice) Van Veldhuizen of Inwood; sister, Jennie (George) Rus of Rock Valley; sisters-in-law: Ida Van Veldhuizen of Burlington, IA, Stella Van Veldhuizen of Rock Valley, Margie Vanden Toorn of Grand Rapids, MI.

Arie was preceded in death by his parents, Aart and Cornelia; his first wife, Joan; infant daughter, Amy; daughter, Jane Van Hill; son, Joel Van Veldhuizen; brothers: Jasper, John, Arthur, and Joe Van Veldhuizen; sister, Dora Koops.
