ALVIN L. WESTRA
Mr. Alvin Westra, age 70, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.
There will be a funeral service on Friday, March 5, at 10:30am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Mr. Tom Hydeen will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
Alvin Lee was born on December 22, 1939, in rural Maurice, the son of Henry and Clarine (De Vries) Westra. He graduated from the Sioux Center High School and served in the United States Marines, during the Vietnam Conflict.
He made his home in Orange City, where he was a carpenter for Kepp Construction, which later became Krull Construction.
Mr. Westra enjoyed racing, especially NASCAR, reading, and fishing. He liked spending time with his sister and niece and special cousins, Hope and Rick Cameron.
Survivors include his sister, Karen Brunemeier, and a niece, Carissa Brunemeier, both of Orange City.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
