LYLE W. STANGE
Mr. Lyle Stange, age 83, of Hull, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010, at the Sioux Center, Iowa, Community Hospital.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday, March 6, at 2:00pm, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Hull. Pastor Jeremy Winter will officiate. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.
Lyle William was born on May 20, 1926, at Doon, Iowa, the son of William R. and Mary I. (Wagner) Stange. He was raised near Doon, was baptized and confirmed at St Paul Lutheran Church in rural Hull, and attended country school in Lyon County. After graduation, he farmed with his father.
On June 6, 1947, he married Eileen Evelyn Kosters at Sioux Center, Iowa. They farmed northeast of Doon for three years, later moving to a farm northeast of Hull, where they lived until 1970. He then pursued a career as a long-distance truck driver, retiring from the Teamsters Union after 23 years. They made their family home in Sioux City, Iowa, and later in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Lyle and Eileen then chose to make a life of leisure and moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Eileen passed away there on January 20, 2006, after more than 58 years of marriage.
Lyle then returned to his roots and became a resident of the Pleasant Acres Care Center and St Paul Lutheran Church, both of Hull.
Many of his adventures included traveling, fishing, hunting, and visiting his children.
Survivors include his four children, Virginia Linneman, of Hull; Laura, and her husband, Todd Vershowske, of Lake Wales, Florida; Michael Stange, and his wife, Rose, of San Antonio, Texas; and Meri Jo Wood, of Aztec, New Mexico; seven grandchildren, Leigh Vershowske, Tanya Vershowske, Jennifer Hebel, Jason Stange, Carla Stange, Amanda Wood, and J. Lyle Wood; four great-grandchildren, Aliyah, Makaylah, and Shaylah Hebel, and Robert Lyle Stange; two nephews, Wayne Strampe and William Stange; and two nieces, Jeanette Wissink and Carol Dierksen.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mike Linneman; a brother and his wife, Edward and Frances Stange; and a sister and her husband, Luella and Orlynn Strampe.
