ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Paul Visser, 69, of Orange City died Monday, March 11, 2002, at
Visser Brothers Plumbing and Heating in Orange City.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Jeffrey Sajdak officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2:30 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Paul was born Dec. 21, 1932, in Maurice, Iowa, the son of Pluim and Dora (Haarsma) Visser. He was raised in Orange City, where he graduated from high school. He attended Northwestern College in Orange City and Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa. He received his masters degree in math and science from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army. On May 19, 1952, he married Marge B. Caswell in Hull, Iowa. Paul was a teacher at the Dakota Christian High School in New Holland and the Horlick High School in Racine, Wis. In 1970, they returned to Orange City, where he became president of Visser Brothers Plumbing and Heating.
He was a member of Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, where he served on many committees. He enjoyed sports and liked spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife: six children, Karla and her husband, Art Vander Wilt, of Hospers, Iowa, Belinda and her husband, Dan Pluim, of Orange City, Valerie and her husband, Randy Droog, of Orange City, Carol and her husband, Doug Bootsma, of Sanborn, Iowa, Donna Vander Linden of Cerntos, Calif., and Paul Visser and his wife, Sheila, of Orange City; 23 grandchildren,
Rashelle and her husband, Larry Theis, of Waterloo, Iowa, Sabrina and her husband, Randy Smit, of Denver, Colo., Tabitha and her husband, Joel Van Soelen, of Des Moines, Amanda and her husband, Scott Van Andle, of Sioux Center, Iowa, Jonathan Vander Wilt of Hospers, Alissa and her husband, Jay Schuiteman, of Sioux Center, Sarah and her husband, Paul Birnhaum, of Marion, Ind., Joshua Pluim of Alton. Iowa. Caleb Pluim of Orange City, Heidi and her husband, Dan Hibma, of Sioux Center, Tim Droog of Alton, Rachel Droog of Orange City, Amy, Deric, Aaron and Grace Bootsma of Sanborn, Autumn, Nathan and Hannah Vander Linden
of Cerritos, Calif., and Jessica, Paul, Taylor and Nichole Visser of Orange City; a great-granddaughter, Emma Theis; and two sisters, Bertha Van Gelder and Marie Rowenhorst, both of Orange City.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, Ivan and Clarence Visser.
