John Waanders was born January 4, 1914 at Hospers, IA. He was the son of Johan and Jennie (Kreykes) Waanders. He attended Hospers Christian Grade School. He was employed at the Hospers Coop Elevator and Lumber Yard until 1943 when he served 21/2 years in the US Army in the European Theatre. After his army service he returned to the Farmer's Coop where he retired in 1977 after 40 years of employment.
On Dec. 27, 1946 he was united in marriage to Jeannette Smit at Hospers. They lived in Hospers until 1993 when they moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon . In April 1995 John entered the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon.
He leaves to cherish their memories the following: his wife, Jeannette of Sheldon;son Marvin and his wife Alice of Denver, Co; daughter Kathy and her husband Dave Miedema of Lakewood, CO. There are 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Johanna Venema of Hospers and 2 brothers, Bill Waanders of Grand Rapids, MI and Arie Waanders of Hanford, CA. 3 sisters and one brother preceded him.
