Jake Clarence Hiemnstra. 73, of Orange City died Saturday, July 6. 2002, at his residence.
Services will be 10 am. Tuesday at First Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiating. Burial will he in West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8:30 p.m.. at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Mr. Hiemstra was born Nov. 10, 1928, in Springfield. S.D., the son ot David and Gertrude (Namminga) Hiemstra. He was raised in Springfield until age 1, when his family moved to Delevan, Wis.
He married Elma Agnes Niesman on Aug. 31, 1950, in Springfield. They farmed at Clinton, Wis., until 1972 when they moved to a farm by Orange City. In 1982 they moved into Orange City. While living in Orange City, Jake pursued sales and service occupation, He was employed by Vogel Paints, Moorman Feeds, Sears, Sioux County Courthouse, Hall Monument and Iowa State Extension. He also sold insurance and repaired sewing machines.
On July 9, 1992. he was involved in a serious traffic accident which forced him to retire.
He was a memher of First Reformed Church, where he served as an elder, and as a catechism and adult Sunday school teacher. He also was a member of the Gideons.
He cherished his children. grandchildren and great-grandson. and he enjoyed playing pool and cards. He and Elma wintered in Texas for several years.
Survivors include his wife: six children and their spouses. Dale and Chery Hiemstra, Glenda and Dann De Vries, Kent and Laura Hiemstra. Brenda and Mike Noteboom. Marsha and Jason Bomgaars, all of Orange City. and Gene and Sher Hiemstra of Sioux Center: 16 grandchildren: a great-grandson: and a brother, Nanno Hiemstra of Ripon. Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents: seven brothers, Jaap, Hiskis. Jacob, Zeke, Charles,
Lawrence and David Hiemstra: and three sisters.
Edith Gretschmann, Grace Kuiper and Gertrude Coehoorn.
