Gerrit was the son of John C. and Dirjke (Hoogland) Dekker. He was raised at Rock Valley, IA.
On February 19, 1943, he married Clarissa De Jong at Maurice, IA. They moved to the Hospers, IA., area in 1953 and they moved into Hospers, IA., in September of 1965. Mrs. Dekker passed away November 2, 1989, at Orange City.
In January of 1994, Mr. Dekker became a resident of Pleasant Acres, Hull, IA..
Gerrit was a farm laborer and a member of the Newkirk Reformed Church.
Survivors include his son. Wendell of Hospers; daughter, Debra of Bowie, Maryland; two brothers, Chris of Orange City, IA., and Henry of Rock Valley, IA.; and a sister, Ida De Haan of Bellflower, California.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert and Frank; and two sisters, Alice Miedema and Grace Dekker.
He died at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.
