Joe Riphagen, 78, of Rock Valley died Thursday night at his home of a heart attack.

Services were held at 1:30 P.M., Monday at the Carmel Reformed Church near Sioux Center. The Rev. David Laman officiated and burial was in the Carmel Cemetery under the direction of the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Mr. Riphagen was born March 28, 1899, in The Netherlands and came to this country with his parents at the age of 8. He married Johanna Te Haar Nov. 25, 1926, in Sioux Center.

They farmed in the Sioux Center area until retiring and moving to the Carmel community.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, William of Rock Valley and Gary of Doon; three daughters, Mrs. Don (Lena) Boscoljon of Doon, Mrs. John (Johanna) Voortman of Alvord and Mrs. Charles (Joycy) Mulder of Ireton; 17 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Gerrit of Maurice and William of Hull and a sister, Mrs. Henry Kamerman of Sioux Center.
