Obituary: Hawarden, Iowa- Marvin Frank Waterman, 80, of Hawarden, died Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden with Rev. Todd Bunge officiating, with burial at Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 3 p.m. followed by visitation with the family until 4:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Marvin Frank Waterman was born May 27, 1929 in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Merlyn and Alberta (Hout) Waterman. He attended school in Hawarden. He married Donna McMurrey September 13, 1947 in Sioux Falls, SD. Marvin later married Anna Renken Jacobs May 11, 1957 in Luverne, MN.
He worked at the Alfalfa plant, Smith Electric in Ireton, Ireton Block and Tile, house moving, and finally with his Dad in the concrete business for 50 years.
Marvin established the Ponderosa Campground in Pickstown, SD with 2 partners. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles and served as trustee for many years. He was baptized and became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed camping, making cement yard ornaments and was highlighted in "Birds and Bloom" magazine. Marvin enjoyed his family.
Survivors include his loving companion of 25 years, Sherry Schuerkamp; sons, Myron and wife Ginger of Amarillo, TX, Rick of Hawarden, Steve and wife Marge of Nemo, SD, John Jacobs and wife Nancy of Hawarden, Rocky and wife Alice of Hawarden, and Marty and wife Julie of Chatsworth; daughters, Connie (Denny) Logemann of Fairmont, MN, Jenyce (Jack) Calkins of Amarillo, TX, Valarie (John) Gries of LeMars, IA, Janie (Mark) Harry of Hawarden, and Anna Marie (Todd) Krug of Erie, PA; Sherry’s sons, Greg and Jim; 31 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Randy (Kathy) Waterman of Sioux Center; sisters, Mary Hulleman of Hawarden, Janice (Charles) Johnson of Blaine, MN, Ramona (Frank) Chan of Phoenix, AZ, and Linda (Darrell) Ellefson of Dawson, MN; and sisters-in-law, Linda Waterman of Hawarden and Mary Ann Warner of South Sioux City, NE; and many friends.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Marlo and Stuart; brothers, Rolan Waterman and Robert Warner; and brother-in-law, Melvin Hulleman.
