Henrietta Hoogland, 85, of Sioux Center, IA died Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.

Visitation will be held Monday at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM.

A prayer service for family and friends will be held Tuesday at 2PM at Bethel Christian Reformed Church with interment to follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 3PM at Bethel Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating.
Henrietta Hoogland was born at home on January 2, 1925 to Albert and Bertha (Wassink) Kraayenbrink in Sioux Center, Iowa. Henrietta spent her childhood in the Sioux Center area and attended the country school where she graduated from the 8th grade.
On January 16, 1946 she married Gerrit Hoogland at a service in her parent’s home. They spent 49 of their nearly 64 years of marriage farming. The first 3 years on a farm west of Sioux Center; the next 10 years on a farm near Maynard, Minnesota. From there the family moved to a farm outside of Magnolia, Minnesota for 18 years until it was decided that Loveland, Colorado would be an ideal place to build new dairies for the next 18 years. In 1995, Henrietta and Gerrit returned to Sioux Center to spend their retirement years where they were both raised. Henrietta will always be remembered as Gerrit’s sweetheart because of her loving supportiveness and devotion to him as her husband.
As a member of the Christian Reformed Church, Henrietta’s faith was evident, and produced much fruit through her nurturing and service to congregations in Sioux Center, Iowa (Bethel), Minnesota (Raymond & Luverne), and Loveland, Colorado (Calvary). Throughout the years Henrietta served as a Sunday school teacher and Calvinette leader. She also regularly attended Ladies Aide and Ladies Missionary Union. Henrietta also touched the lives of many people outside of her church community. She was active in distributing tracts and sharing the good news of the Gospel wherever she and Gerrit’s travels took them, and willingly opened her home to anyone needing help.
Henrietta loved to sing and hosted many hymn sings in her home. She enjoyed gardening and her well-tended flower beds always contained a multitude of pink blossoms. Her love of baking and cooking was evidenced in her delicious homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, balcon braa and crispy, butter-drenched fried eggs. She crocheted countless doilies, collars and table coverings as her hands were never held idle.
She was a hard-working yet fun-loving and industrious helpmate who cared deeply for her family. She placed a high value on Christian education, and sacrificed greatly so her children could receive that education. Henrietta called the 5 children given her over the span of 20 years "her greatest blessing". Her eldest daughter Gracia and Gracia’s husband Jim De Boef from Pella, Iowa have already been called home to be with the Lord.
Along with her husband, she is survived by her children; Albert and Myrna (Sandbulte) Hoogland of Garretson South Dakota; Jacob and Marg (Sybenga) Hoogland of Bolivia, South America; Bernard and Cheryl (Te Slaa) Hoogland of Longmont, Colorado and Vonda (Hoogland) and Paul Kooima of Sioux Center, Iowa. Henrietta has 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Nellie Rens of Rock Rapids, Iowa, sister-in-law, Clarice Kraayenbrink of Sioux City, Iowa and brother-in-law, Ray Donkersloot of Brandon, South Dakota.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Albert and Bertha Kraayenbrink, her siblings; Alyda (Kraayenbrink) Donkersloot, Arend Kraayenbrink, brother-in-law, John Rens, and her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Gracia (Hoogland) and Jim De Boef.
The cruel disease of Alzheimer’s took away many of her later years, yet nothing of this world could steal her out of her Father’s hand. Memories of Henrietta will be treasured deeply with our greatest comfort being that she is with her Lord. It would be her greatest joy and desire that those whose lives she impacted seek to grow in Christ and walk in His ways.
