Orange City, Winifred Ruth Langstraat, 84, Orange City, died Saturday, Sept 30, at Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Services were Tuesday, Oct 3, at Newkirk Reformed Church, with the Rev. Dennis Hietbrink and the Rev. Mike Pitsenberger officiating. Burial was at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City,under the direction of Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Winifred Langstraat, daughter of Edward and Carrie (Top) Zwagerman, was born Dec. 30, l9l5 in rural Sheldon. She was raised in Hospers, where she attended the Christian school. She married Donald Edward Vaas on Feb. 215, l936 in Hospers. They farmed in Orange City, Alton, Hospers and Sheldon. Mr. Vaas died Sept. 12, l954, in Sheldon. She continued to farm until l968, when she moved to Orange City. She also was employed at De Vries Drapery in Orange City. She married Herman Langstraat on May 1, l970, in Newkirk. They farmed in Newkirk until l987, when they retired into Orange City. She was a member of Newkirk Reformed Church, where she was active in the Mission Fellowship. She enjoyed doing handwork. They enjoyed traveling and fishing. She corresponded regularly with her children and grandchildren. He family was very important to her, and she appreciated the special relationship she had with her stepchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Herm; two sons and two daughters, Bennet and Twyla Vaas of rural Sheldon, Karlene and Rod Van't Hof of Sioux Center, Daryl and Ruth Vaas of Greeley, CO, and Eulyn "Lynn" and Owen Dykshorn of Sioux Center; 12 grandchildren, ll great-grandchildren; two stepsons and four stepdaughters, Shirley and Verlin Goering of New Ulm, MN,Rod and Alma Langstraat of rural Hospers, Darlene Altena of Sioux Center, Bev and Gene Van Berkel of Sioux Center, Glenda and Gary Jager of George and Brad Langstraat of Lakefield, MN; 16 step grandchildren, l0 step great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bertha and Clif Brink of Hospers.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Vaas; a grandson, Michael Van't Hof; and a brother, Pete Zwagerman.
